Ms. Sweeney comes from a Credit Union background and boasts of being the daughter of a founding member of the Credit Union movement in Dominica. She says, "Credit Unionism is in my DNA" and loves the motto "People helping people".

Ms. Sweeney is an enthusiastic Toastmaster and is affiliated to the International body and the Nature Isle Toastmasters Club. She was instrumental in establishing a club at the NCCU, the first corporate club in Dominica. This has placed NCCU among Fortune 500 companies, such as Coco Cola, with a Toastmasters Club.
