Cadence Lypso Launch 2013

NCCU LAUNCHES 2ND EDITION OF THE CADENCE LYPSO SHOW

The National Cooperative Credit Union Ltd (NCCU)  is promising a “bigger and better” Cadence Lypso Show  this year.  This was disclosed by NCCU Treasurer, Fevrier Valmond, during the launching of the 2nd edition on Monday, July 15, 2013, at the NCCU  headquarters in Roseau.

img3002.jpg“A number of adjustments have been’ made to the format of the show which will be revealed in due time,” Mr. Valmond indicated.

The Cadence Lypso show  is carded for  Saturday, October 19, 2013 at the Newtown  Savannah. Its  primary objectives are to preserve the music culture of Dominica, to develop the musical art form and to expose and cultivate young talent.

The competition is open to singers, songwriters, producers and performers who are nationals of the Commonwealth of Dominica

Only one entry per individual or group will be accepted.  All entries must be original, not previously recorded or performed and no longer than seven (7) minutes.

The genre and base of the music must be Cadence Lypso. The language of the song can be Creole, Kokoy, English or a combination.

Songs are to be submitted on a compact disc to an NCCU Branch, along with a completed application form and registration fee of $50 by  August 31, 2013.

The Grand Prize Winner will receive EC$15,000; 2nd place-EC$5,000 and 3rd place-EC$2,500.The other 17 finalists will each receive EC$1,000.

  

In addressing the function, Chief Cultural Officer, Raymond Lawrence, emphasized that shows such as  the Cadence Lypso give artistes the opportunity to perform.

Director of Tourism, Colin Piper, pledged the support of the Dominica Festivals Committee and commended the NCCU noting the show has almost created a renaissance of the music.  He linked cultural events like the Cadence Lypso show to Dominica’s tourism  thrust of attracting 90,000 visitors by 2015. 

2012 Cadence Lypso Monarch, Webster “Webb” Marie confirmed at Monday’s press conference  that he will be competing this year and will be coming out with something good. 

He encouraged anyone with a talent to sing or write to participate and to see it as an investment.
